DC is especially well suited to meet this moment.
We have a vibrant university network full of motivated and passionate youth. We have citizens who have worked in every branch of government.
We are informed, interested, and activated.
We embrace values rooted in equality and freedom.
Let’s inform our neighbors of possible risks.
Let’s hold our local government accountable to transparency and our demands.
Let’s figure out what might happen and what we can do to preserve our status quo.
Nobody has all of the answers, but coming together to brainstorm and stand united will help us mitigate a lot of harm.
Congress is poised to overrule our local laws.
What does that mean to our everyday lives?
How can we maintain the chosen parts of the status quo?
Join one of our committees to help track how we may be affected, inform the public of potential affects through town halls and educational presentations, examine tactics that can help protect what may be lost.
We have an active education, climate, budget, and police committee.
Now, more than ever, we need honest and transparent communication from our local government.
While our government can’t offer all of the protections of a blue state, they can help maintain the local structures that reflect the values and voices of DC Citizens.
Let’s make sure the DC Budget reflects our larger priorities; let’s make sure DC is taking all steps possible to prioritize efficiency and efficacy; let’s work together to communicate, educate, and coordinate to face these unprecedented times.
This is a moment that will require all of us to do all of the things.
If YOU think something is a good idea, I guarantee you someone else will think it is a good idea too.
Whether it is a postcarding party, a protest, offering testimony to the Council – it is always easier and more fun if you are doing it together. Host an event! Even if only a few people show up the first time – it will gain momentum. The first few weeks of the Tesla protests had 5 people. That grew to almost 1,000 people in two months.
We would love to hear YOUR idea!
