Did you know that most representatives in Congress represent about 700,000 people? Each US Senator represents their entire states so in California that means 39 million people. ANCs are a unique feature of the District’s Home Rule Charter designed to bring government closer to the people and the people closer to government. ANC commissioners represent about 2,000 people – a TRUE representative democracy!
Get on the schedule and testify at your local ANC Meeting. What better way to educate neighbors and express concern to leaders in our community that you are concerned about DC Autonomy.
Just prepare a brief testimony based on personal experience or broader questions and concerns. Come to one of our meetings, “What Does Democracy Look Like” or “DC Home Rule & Our Daily Lives’ to help articulate priorities in our neighborhoods. Get some talking points, or create your own and share them with our group!
Buddy-up with other neighbors to discuss a specific issue more broadly and take up a larger amount of time at the meeting – and, have more fun!
